The 21 Days of Yule

Welcome, witches! The 21 Days of Yule is not another holiday to-do list. It’s an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and weave magic into the darkest days of the year. There is no pressure to do every single one. Pick and choose what calls to you. Let this be your sacred anchor in the seasonal rush.

Week 1: Descent into Darkness – Release & Reflect

(Focus: Letting go, introspection, shadow work, and cleansing.)

A single black candle flame illuminates frost-dusted pine cones on a dark wooden table, symbolizing finding light in the heart of winter.

Day 1: Welcome the Darkness

Prompt: Tonight, light a single black, dark blue, or purple candle. Sit in the darkness for 5 minutes. Acknowledge and welcome the fertile, silent power of the dark. What can it teach you?

Swirls of mystical incense smoke rise from a vintage brass censer for a ritual cleansing.

Day 2: Cleansing Smoke

Prompt: Use a seasonal incense (cedar, pine, frankincense) to smudge your home. As you do, visualize washing away any stagnant energy from the past year.

A bathtub with rose petals and a sprig of rosemary floating in clear water, with a single candle on the edge. The scene is serene and magical. Gouache painting style, soft colors --no text --no people

Day 3: Waters of Release

Prompt: Take a ritual bath or shower. Add a handful of sea salt or a few drops of rosemary essential oil to the water. As you soak, imagine all stress and negativity flowing down the drain.

Magical tools like tarot cards and crystals charged under the powerful light of the Cold Moon.

Day 4: Full Moon in Cold – Charge Your Tools

Prompt: Place your favorite crystals, tarot deck, or jewelry under the light of the last Full Moon of the year. Ask it to cleanse and charge them with intuitive power.

A person's hand placing a clear quartz crystal on a clean, organized shelf, symbolizing creating space for new magic.

Day 5: Declutter a Single Space

Prompt: Physically cleanse a small, cluttered area (a junk drawer, a shelf). As you clear the physical space, set the intention to create mental space for new growth.

A person's hands holding The World tarot card, representing reflection and completion at the year's end.

Day 6: Divination for the Year’s End

Prompt: Pull a single tarot/oracle card or scry with a dark bowl of water. Ask: “What final lesson is the year 2024 offering me before it ends?”

A silver locket open on dark velvet, with a light inside, symbolizing finding gratitude and light within shadows.

Day 7: Gratitude for the Shadows

Prompt: List 3 difficult experiences from this past year. For each, find one small gift, strength, or lesson it gave you. Thank them for their role in your growth.

Week 2: Finding the Stillness – Peace & Protection

(Focus: Creating coziness, setting boundaries, and cultivating inner peace.)

A cozy simmer pot on a stove with oranges and cinnamon, filling a witch's kitchen with festive and protective energy.

Day 8: Create a Simmer Pot

Prompt: Fill a pot with water and add seasonal items: orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and pine needles. Let it simmer on your stove, filling your home with a protective and cozy atmosphere.

A handwritten Yule wish, rolled and tied with a red ribbon on a bed of pine, ready for the solstice fire.

Day 9: Craft a Yule Wish Paper

Prompt: Write your wishes, hopes, and dreams for the coming year on a small piece of paper using a colored pen. Fold it and place it on your altar (to be burned later).

A peaceful mug of herbal tea with chamomile and lavender, a simple kitchen witch ritual for calm.

Day 10: Witch’s Kitchen – Peaceful Tea

Prompt: Brew a cup of tea. As the water boils, whisper intentions of peace over it. Add chamomile, lavender, or a pinch of nutmeg. Drink mindfully.

A magical hand blessing a Yule wreath, infusing it with protective and joyful energy for the home.

Day 11: Enchant Your Decor

Prompt: As you hang a decoration (a wreath, a string of lights, etc.), hold it and whisper a blessing for your home: “May this bring light/protection/joy to all within.”

Witch's bells made of three silver bells on a red ribbon, hanging on a wooden door for protection.

Day 12: Craft Witch’s Bells

Prompt: Tie three bells to a red or green ribbon. Hang them on your front door to ring in good energy and ring out the negative.

An open journal with a shadow work prompt, "What am I ready to release?" written in elegant script with a black feather quill.

Day 13: Shadow Work Prompt

Prompt: In your journal, answer: “What habit, thought, or fear is holding me back that I am ready to release into the winter dark?”

A glowing blue lavender candle on a nightstand, casting a peaceful light for a restful sleep spell.

Day 14: A Spell for Quiet Nights

Prompt: Before bed, anoint a blue candle with lavender oil. Light it and say: “With this flame, I banish worry and fear. My mind is still, my rest is deep, and my dreams are clear.”

Week 3: The Return of the Light – Hope & Intention

(Focus: Welcoming the sun, setting intentions, and celebrating the light.)

A foraged collection of winter nature items in a basket, ready to decorate a solstice altar.

Day 15: Forage for Your Altar

Prompt: Go for a walk and find a natural offering for your Yule altarโ€”a pinecone, a bare branch, a beautiful stone. Place it with gratitude.

A magical blend of sun-incense ingredients glowing in a mortar and pestle, radiating solar energy.

Day 16: Sun Incense

Prompt: Create a simple “sun” incense blend by mixing dried orange peel, a cinnamon stick, and a pinch of rosemary. Burn it to invite solar energy back into your life.

A warm, crackling fireplace in a cozy room, representing the sacred hearth at Yule.

Day 17: Bless the Hearth

Prompt: If you have a fireplace, light it with intention. If not, light your stove’s burner for a moment or gather around many candles. Offer a silent thanks for the warmth that sustains you.

A handmade Brigid's Cross made of golden wheat, a traditional solar charm for the returning sun.

Day 18: Craft a Solar Charm

A warmly lit Yule feast table set with evergreens, ready for a gathering of loved ones.

Day 19: Feast of the Family

Prompt: Prepare or share a meal with loved ones (found family or blood family). Before eating, hold hands and share one thing you appreciate about each person.

A bay leaf on a pillow under a starry sky, used for a Solstice Eve dream incubation ritual.

Day 20: Solstice Eve – Dreaming the New Sun

Prompt: Place a bay leaf under your pillow tonight. Ask your dreams to show you a vision of your path in the coming year of light.

A brightly burning Yule log, with a wish paper igniting in the flames, celebrating the return of the light at the Winter Solstice.

At Dawn or Dusk: Light a candle in the darkness.

Read:ย A poem or prayer honoring the sun.
